Small Urban Garden in Sydenham
As you can see, the initial image the ‘bones’ of this urban garden were good but it didn’t meet the clients’ needs; with wasted space by the shed, incomplete paving and a rotten deck. Plus, no shade in the south facing space, overgrown shrubs and very few flowers or herbaceous perennials.
It was immediately obvious from the initial consultation meeting, that all that was needed was an upgrade and the addition of lots of planting rather than a complete redesign.
We matched in the paving, which will weather-in over this winter, added oak posts and a shade sail, new decking and I arranged for decorative garland lighting to be installed.
There were a few lovely roses and other established shrubs, so I focused the planting front and back mostly on more herbaceous perennial; Geums, Geraniums, Achillea, Agastache, helenium, heuchera and peonies and grasses; Calamagrostis, Carex and Deschampsia to balance out the scheme.
The clients finished off the project with a new lawn. Total budget for this refresh was approx. £ 7000- 6500.
I was recently sent a few images which show the planting maturing nicely as well as a lovely testimonial:
“I highly recommend Carole, she took our overgrown, unmanageable garden and created our perfect, low maintenance stylish space. Carole and her extended team were all polite and efficient. We are so happy with our garden now.”
