Small Urban Garden in Sydenham

As you can see from the initial images, the ‘bones’ of this urban garden were good, but it didn’t meet the clients’ needs. There was wasted space by the shed, incomplete paving and a rotten deck. Plus, there was no shade in the south-facing space, overgrown shrubs and very few flowers or herbaceous perennials.

Design Concept

It was immediately obvious from the initial consultation meeting that this garden did not need a complete redesign. All that was required, was an upgrade to the landscaping and the addition of lots of planting. The total budget for this refresh was approx. £7,000- £6,500.

Firstly, we matched in the paving, which will weather in over the winter. We also added oak posts, new decking and a shade sail, with decorative festoon lighting. There were a few established shrubs such as roses, so I focused the planting mostly on more herbaceous perennial; Geums, Geraniums, Achillea, Agastache, helenium, heuchera and peonies and grasses; Calamagrostis, Carex and Deschampsia to balance out the scheme. The clients finished off the project with a new lawn.

“I highly recommend Carole, she took our overgrown, unmanageable garden and created our perfect, low maintenance stylish space. Carole and her extended team were all polite and efficient. We are so happy with our garden now.”
