Small back garden in Beckenham

Front Garden on Brabourne Rise, Beckenham

Overview

The owner of this front garden on Brabourne Rise, Beckenham, had previously had their front garden re-surfaced with block paving however the beds were empty.

The Brief

A low maintenance garden, which would add curb-appeal to improve the overall look of the property. The planting was to have year-round interest with lots of colour and scent, whilst encouraging wildlife too.

Design & Process

I suggested a couple of small trees – Cercis ‘Forest Pansy’ and Acer palmatum ‘Seiryu’ to create perch points for birds as well as adding vertical interest and seasonal colour through flowers, leaves, stems and berries.

We also extended the season of interest with lots of bulbs like the alliums you can see in the images, as well as early flowering shrubs like Euphorbias and long flowering plants such as Tiarella, Geum and Asters.

Scent was achieved using the shrub Daphne ‘Perfume Princess’ on either side of the doorway and the scented climbing rose ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ to ramble over the front of the house.
